Trusting Yourself in Big Decisions: Leadership Beyond Fear
When I gave my notice at work, my boss’s reaction was heartfelt and kind:
"You will be so missed."
But as I walked away, a heavy feeling crept in.
Was I making a mistake? The wrong choice?
Just the day before, I saw an HR influencer say that quitting a job right now is the worst mistake you can make. The messaging everywhere seems to be:
This isn’t safe.
This isn’t smart.
But as a leader, I know that playing it safe isn’t the same as making the right choice.
Whose Fears Are You Carrying?
When I sat with my emotions, I had a realization: I wasn’t feeling my own doubts—I was absorbing everyone else’s.
The truth? This decision had been on my heart for months. But because I hadn’t shared it widely, others’ shock made me question myself.
This is what happens in leadership and in life. When we make bold moves, people react based on their own fears, not our truth.
Authentic Leadership Requires Inner Trust
Great leaders don’t wait for external validation before moving forward. They make decisions based on:
Purpose
Alignment
Long-term impact
When I reconnected with what I knew was right, the doubt faded. I wasn’t making a reckless move—I was making a deliberate, values-driven decision.
Leading Through Change
In big life transitions, we have to separate inner knowing from external noise. Fear-based advice is everywhere, but only you know the right next step for your journey.
So, I’ll ask you:
👉 Have you ever had a moment where outside opinions made you question a decision you knew was right?
